Results & Accuracy

Generally, results will be available within 2-4 weeks of the lab receiving your sample.

Our partner, Sapphiros Laboratories, provides testing and reporting solutions through their high complexity, CLIA-certified laboratories.  All the at-home sample collection testing we offer has been thoroughly validated against traditional testing conducted in doctor’s offices and clinics.  Our partner’s lab complies with all federal and state regulations regarding laboratory testing in addition to performing frequent internal quality checks and testing, as well as regular inspections and validation of the accuracy of their testing.

Yes, GoToKnow always advises you to share and discuss your results with your health care provider. Our tests provide personalized information and education; they are not intended to diagnose any disease or condition or to substitute for professional medical advice or treatment. You should always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health care provider with any questions you have regarding your medical care.

In general, results between laboratories, when using the same test method and sample type, will be very similar, but not necessarily the same. This is expected because each laboratory establishes its own reference ranges. Reference ranges are the span of measured values in which patient samples are considered normal and/or abnormal. The College of American Pathologists (CAP) requires inter-laboratory testing and monitors the results to ensure that laboratories are not operating out of acceptable range.

Often the sample type that is tested differs. The method of testing may also differ. If the sample type and/or the test method differ from your GoToKnow test, you may notice that the result values are different.

GoToKnow uses minimally invasive methods to collect samples. We use the following sample types in our testing:

  • Cheek (buccal) swab used to collect the sample orally

If your test results differ significantly, consider first whether the sample type and test methods are really the same. If your results (for example, normal vs. high risk) are the same for the two tests, then the reference ranges are likely different because the test methods are not directly comparable.

Variation is normal between labs and even within the same lab. However, every lab must demonstrate that their results meet a common standard to ensure an acceptable level of precision with their reporting. We have ensured that all the labs we use meet and/or exceed the minimum standard for acceptable variation; however, you will always see some degree of variation in results between different labs.

GoToKnow offers consumers access to our partner, Sapphiros Laboratories who is regulated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). States and other entities also oversee lab testing to ensure accurate and reliable test results when laboratories perform the testing on patient specimens.

Sapphiros laboratories that process our tests is CLIA-certified.  This lab also complies with all federal and state regulations regarding laboratory testing in addition to performing frequent internal quality checks and testing, as well as regular inspections and validation of the accuracy of their testing.

If you have questions about the accuracy or quality of your test results, please contact our Customer Support Team.

GoToKnow offers at-home sample collection testing that has been shown to be just as accurate as tests you receive at a doctor’s office or clinic.  All the at-home sample collection testing we offer has been thoroughly validated against traditional testing conducted in doctor’s offices and clinics. That data is reviewed and approved by the certified Laboratory Director at our partner’s lab.

Many reference ranges are based on statistical generalizations of “normal” values from large groups of healthy people. With any statistics for a population, individuals on either end of the cut-offs may still be healthy. Diagnosing disease is often a combination of lab results and clinical presentation. Therefore, we always recommend sharing any abnormal results with your healthcare provider.
